ABOUT US
Welcome to Random Pictures, the online home of writer/producer Iain Crittenden
(‘Plausible Deniability’,‘Holy Crap’, ‘It’s Fine, I’m Fine’).
Based in Melbourne, Australia, Iain is a professional storyteller with 30yrs experience working across advertising, television and events.
As a writer he loves telling simple stories with complex characters. He’s drawn to ones that use comedy to explore darker themes, the absurdity of everyday life and the grey areas people occupy. His work combines comedy with social commentary to produce stories that are thought-provoking, insightful and laugh-out-loud funny.
A reviewer from The Black List in the US described his writing “as confident and assured as it is eloquent, and yet it still manages to deliver laugh out loud lines. The humor displays a clever wit and dry, dark sensibility.”
As a writer/producer he recently produced the award-winning series Plausible Deniability. Financed by Screen Australia, it’s a seven-part web series about three kids from the western suburbs who face off against a who’s who of Australian thought leaders as part of a homelessness documentary they’re making at their school. The series was selected for 11 festivals; scored 26 nominations and had six wins including Best Comedy, Best Episode (The Archbishop) and Best Supporting Actor (Darren Gilshenan) at the British Web Awards in December.
He also worked with Photoplay Films on It’s Fine, I’m Fine, the short-from series from creator/director Stef Smith. Financed by Screen Australia, with support from Screen NSW, it’s a happy/sad series that follows a suburban psychologist and the ups and downs of her patients as they explore love, loss, anxiety, obsession and the uncertain future ahead. It celebrates the mess and melancholy of life with elements of unexpected magical realism.
Iain has also developed and produced an eclectic mix of stories, ideas, events and brands. Some small, others large. Some created in-house, others as part of much larger teams. From advertising campaigns and interactive content, to publishing projects and large-scale events.
He works with lots of different people, on lots of different projects.
He’d love to hear about yours. Or work with you on one of his.
